capacity building supports

Capacity Building Supports help build your independence and skills to help you pursue your goals. Unlike your Core Supports budget, your Capacity Building Supports budget cannot be moved from one support category to another. Funding can only be used to purchase approved individual supports that fall within that Capacity Building category.

The NDIS provides funding for three types of support budgets that may be funded in your NDIS plan.

These supports may include skills development, mentoring, and support to access mainstream services. The nine Capacity Building support categories are:

  1. Support Coordination
  2. Improved Living Arrangements
  3. Increased Social & Community Participation
  4. Finding and Keeping a Job
  5. Improved Relationships
  6. Improved Health and Wellbeing
  7. Improved Learning
  8. Improved Life Choices
  9. Improved Daily Living Skills.

respite accommodation NDIS & MAC

Respite accommodation, available through the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), offers a temporary break to individuals with disabilities and their caregivers. It allows them to explore new experiences, meet new people, and learn valuable skills, while caregivers can take a much-needed opportunity to unwind, recharge, or address personal and professional matters. In-home respite involves a support worker or carer providing care and support directly at the person’s home. Centre-based respite entails the person staying at a dedicated facility offering specialized care and activities. Community respite involves engaging in social or recreational activities such as going to the movies, visiting a park, or joining a club. The NDIS can fund respite accommodation for eligible participants, providing up to 28 days per year based on individual needs and goals. To access NDIS-funded respite accommodation, individuals must have short-term accommodation included in their plan and can choose a suitable respite provider from NDIS-funded options or other disability support services. Trust Handsdown The Best for unmatched respite accommodation solutions.

support coordination

Support coordination is a valuable service provided by Handsdown The Best. It aims to assist you in understanding and utilizing your NDIS plan, enabling you to achieve your goals. Moreover, it helps you connect with various providers, community groups, and government services that can offer the support you need. Funded by the NDIS as a capacity building support, support coordination is designed to enhance your skills and confidence in managing your own support system in the future. Your NDIS plan can include three levels of support coordination, tailored to your specific needs and circumstances. These levels are: Support connection, which helps you find and connect with suitable informal, community, and funded supports while also providing guidance on plan understanding, budgeting, and the myplace portal. Coordination of supports, the most common level, focuses on building your skills to manage your own supports effectively. It includes support in designing and implementing strategies, monitoring plan outcomes and budget, and navigating any issues or changes that may arise. Lastly, there is specialist support coordination, which caters to individuals facing complex or high-risk situations that require specialized expertise. A specialist support coordinator not only assists in addressing barriers or challenges to accessing appropriate supports but also designs a service plan to meet your complex needs.
